An Icon from Mercedes: SL 65 AMG Black Series

Sunday morning, the silence in the Lazio countryside is shattered by a scream. A scream coming from one of the most powerful engines ever to come out of Mannheim. We're talking about an iconic acronym: 65 AMG. Yes, you heard right, sixty-five AMG.

Few cars in the history of the three-pointed star have had the honor of bearing that name, only five to be precise. And I am on board the most extreme of them.

We're talking about the SL 65 Black Series, a unicorn on wheels driven by the madness of the 6.0 V12 biturbo. If I had to describe it briefly? It doesn't care. About anything.

It doesn't care about physics and the braking force that the wind should (and I mean should) make increasing speed more difficult as the speedometer climbs. Well, that's not the case at all with this Black Series.

It's truly impressive how it accelerates with the same nonchalance at any speed. Whether you're at 50, 150, or 250, it goes. With the same arrogance, it catapults you forward, completely disregarding air resistance.

Its stability is incredibly surprising, not only on the straight but especially in curves. In fast ones as well as in tight mixed sections. It has the rigidity of a marble slab, and for sports driving, this is the ultimate. Less so for the back! The carbon bucket seats don't help ergonomics, but they are so beautiful that everything is forgiven.

There is a non-Black Series version of the SL that uses the same engine, but with 57 fewer horsepower, and is a convertible, unlike this one which was kept as a coupé to achieve greater chassis rigidity. Aesthetically, the Black Series is recognizable by its very prominent body widenings, both at the front and rear. Additionally, at the back, there is a spoiler that raises and lowers automatically depending on speed.

After a day aboard this SL, one feels very fortunate. It is a special car: besides this one, there are only 349 others in the entire world. This makes it a car for true collectors, and its value is already skyrocketing.

Incredible performance, iconic nomenclature, and a superhero aesthetic make it worthy of being called the 65 AMG Black Series.
